Old Vermont Map Sculpture

Description

The Old Vermont map sculptures I make are substantial and sturdy.  This one is 36″ tall and each one is formed over a 1″ thick wood base.

I use genuine Vermont plates in as-found condition. The plates are then screwed and nailed into place. Where plates meet the edge I carefully cut and form the metal around the wood base and attach it to the backside creating a unique wrapped look. The Old Vermont Map Sculpture are accurate and include details such as rusted screws, felt covered back, hang wire, rubber feet, and a numbered identification tag.

When selecting the plates for each state map I feel like I”m painting with colors and rust. And each plate is selected to exhibit a unique look; I strive for a balanced composition in color, condition, texture, numbers, and even the placement of the text creating a piece that your eyes will explore noticing new details each time you look at it. All the edges are hammered and filed and are surprisingly smooth to the touch should you also want to ‘see’ it with your hands.

Each sculpture that I create is unique, so the numbers and plates may be different. I can also custom make a map for you with variations in colors, plate condition, years, and size.
