Baked Maple Beans are really easy to cook! Of course, you need a night to soak the beans and then two hours to bake them in an oven… But hands are free almost all the cooking time and the result is highly satisfying.
Total Time to Cook Ten Servings of Baked Maple Beans – 10 Hours 40 Min.
Ingredients
- dried navy beans: 1 pound
- 4 bacon slices (chopped) – optional
- onion (chopped): 1/2 cup
- Viking Farms Maple Sugar: 1/4 cup
- Viking Farms Maple Syrup: 1/4 cup
- dry mustard: 1 tablespoon
- salt: 1 teaspoon
- black pepper (freshly ground): 1/4 teaspoon
- water: 6 cups (divided)
Instructions
Sort and wash beans; place in a large Dutch oven. Cover with water to 2 inches above beans; cover and let stand 8 hours.
Drain beans. Wipe pan dry with a paper towel.
Cook bacon in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat 3 minutes, stirring frequently. Add onion; reduce heat to medium, and cook 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combine maple sugar and next 4 ingredients (through pepper) in a small bowl; stir well. Add water (1 cup); stir until well blended.
Add beans to the pan, stirring to coat. Stir in brown sugar mixture. Add water (5 cups); bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Turn on an oven and preheat it to 300°. Cook Baked Maple Beans for 2 hours – beans should be tender, stirring occasionally.
